Rabu, 12 Maret sempat belajar bahasa inggris. Maklum bahasa inggris saya buruk. Saya belajar tentang bagaiman menentukan subjek dan kata kerja yang terdapat pada sebuah kalimat. Sebenarnya kenapa sih kita mesti belajar menemukan subjek dan kata kerja dalam sebuah kalimat? Jawabannya adalah supaya kita dapat memperbaiki kesalahan pada kalimat dan juga membantu kita untuk menempatkan tanda baca dengan tepat. Seperti yang dijelaskan pada website http://www.grammarbook.com, Kata kerja (verb) adalah kata yang menunjukkan sebuah aksi (action) seperti runs, hits, slides atau suatu keadaan seperti is, are, was, were, am dan lain-lain. Sedangkan yang dimaksud dengan subjek (subject) adalah kata benda atau kata ganti yang melakukan aksi (verb). Menemukan subjek dan kata kerja pada sebuah kalimat akan terasa sangat mudah jika kita mengikuti ketentuan-ketentuan seperti yang dijelaskan pada situs grammarbook.com. Berikut adalah aturan-aturan tersebut:
Peraturan pertama,
Jika sebuah kata kerja (verb) di ikuti dengan kata ‘to’ maka kata tersebut disebut sebagai frase infinitif dan kata tersebut bukanlah kata kerja yang sebenarnya. Kita akan menemukan kata kerja yang sebenarnya sebelum atau sesudah infinitif.
Peraturan kedua,
Sebuah subjek bisa ditemukan sebelum sebuah frase yang dimulai dengan kata ‘of’.
Peraturan ketiga,
Untuk menemukan kata kerja (verb) dan subje, selalu temukan kata kerja terlebih dahulu. Kemudian tanya, siapa atau apa yang melakukan aksi (verb).
Peraturan keempat,
Kata-kata permintaan atau perintah seperti ‘Stop!’ atau ‘Walk Quickly’ sudah dipastikan bahwa subjeknya adalah anda sendiri. Kenapa begitu? karena sesuai dengan peraturan ketiga, maka kita menanyakan siapa atau apa yang melakukan ‘Stop!’ atau ‘Walk Quickly’. Dan tentunya sudah pasti anda bukan?
Peraturan kelima(terakhir),
Kalimat dapat memiliki lebih dari satu subjek, atau lebih dari satu kata kerja atau bisa memiliki pasangan subjek dan kata kerja.
